Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

Artist's Book

In Philip K. Dick's great story Rick Deckard is a bounty hunter. He reports to the police for his work. It makes sense that they would keep a very close eye on a man they have run around San Francisco with a license to "retire" androids by any means.

When considering directions for Do Androids Dream I had two main sources of inspiration. Obviously, the story itself but also Ridley Scott's film Blade Runner which was inspired by Dick's story. The book is grounded in a more realistic dystopian future while the film is intentionally exaggerated and more foreign in description and appearance. With those qualities in mind I focused on creating the whole of the book with materials that are in the familiar such as the worn accordion folder and polaroid instant-film photographs. For myself the book needed to feel like it had been picked out of a stack of months and years old reports, reused and abused, rather than a sci-fi movie prop.
